Story of the Whale
For a long time whales swam freely and peace[fully] through these
waters. Then the white whalers entered, hunting and harassing them.
The whales evade the intruder. They flee and breed in spite of
the aggression, the spirit of greed and death.
Eventually the whalers forsake their harpoons and hunting. They
acknowledge the integrity of the whale as a special life force.
They learn to appreciate their nature, survival skills and habitation.
The whales have increased in number and swim about their new friends.
The whales will guide their new friends into calm waters.
This is a story of reconciliation. This is the meaning: Let us
come together and talk peace.
The Tribal Warrior mast has this story of the whale, a totem of
coastal tribes of New South Wales.
